As the title says, I am discontinuing Workflow (the GTK screen time tracker app) from Flathub. Gestures will still remain for download for a while, as it seems to be still quite popular in terms of user base, but will not benefit from active development any further.

The reasons behind this, lack of time aside, are nothing special. The Linux user experience has thankfully evolved really fast in the last three years, and it felt to me that neither of these apps provides enough value nowadays (apart from a GTK UI, that is) for most users to make use of them any longer.

For instance, I have never opened Gestures since most desktops, like GNOME, integrated proper touchpad gestures in the last releases, and ActivityWatch provides an extensive web UI for their tool.

Another big issue is that neither of the Flathub builds, to which we switched last year, can comfortably include their respective backends (libinput-gestures or ActivityWatch) in the package, as they require almost total system permissions. Therefore, requiring all users to also externally install the backends separately felt a bit too cumbersome.

The code for both apps will still remain online on GitLab, at the gestures and workflow repositories respectfully. Both are standard Python/Meson apps, so they can be built and installed in one click through an IDE like GNOME Builder within seconds.
